Is Coaching Right For You?

May 8, 2019

Since starting my business at the end of last year I’ve had a lot of slightly confused looks from people who ask me what I do for a living! So I figured this might be a good place to start for my first ever blog post.

Now if you google coaching you’ll get tons of definitions; however as this is my blog I’m going to tell you my definition:

“Coaching is a vehicle to facilitate change”

As a coach, I listen carefully to what you say, how you say it and the words you use. I ask questions, reflect information back to you and sometimes challenge you. I bring things out of your subconscious into your conscious awareness to help you to gain clarity over what is going on in your life.  I believe that you are the expert on your life, so I will help you to explore different ways in which you can move forward, and provide support and accountability to help you on your journey.

“Awareness brings change” – Melody Beattie

There is so much personal development information available these days. I’ve had clients who are quite frustrated because they have read all the books and know all the theory; however, still can’t make the changes they say they want to make. They are great at talking the talk and telling others how to solve their problems, but not so great at walking the walk and applying it to their own lives!

Unfortunately, we can’t learn life skills by reading a book! Change is experiential – there is no magic switch we can flick, we have to do the work ourselves, which can be hard and scary. We can have all the theory and information but ultimately it’s our experiences that change us.

There was a young man walking down the street and happened to see an old man sitting on his porch. Next to the old man was his dog, who was whining and whimpering. The young man asked the old man “What’s wrong with your dog” The old man said “He’s laying on a nail.” The young man asked “laying on a nail? Well why doesn’t he get up?” The old man then replied “It’s not hurting bad enough yet.”

So I’m curious. Are you going to stay stuck on the nail, moaning and groaning, allowing fear to paralyse you and keep you small? Or are you ready to face that fear, get unstuck and live your life from a place of courage and accountability?

If you are ready to get off the nail and make some changes in your life and would like some support, get in touch for a free no-obligation chat.
